NEW-- NEW-- NEW!!

What about conferences??

Why attend a conference??

What will I get out of it??

Please read this brand new article that addresses these questions and more, written by Marilyn Rockett.

NOTE:

How do we define a FAMILY??

A family is one individual (such as when mom comes by herself) OR a married couple, and their immediate family- all children living in the home, regardless of their ages. A family DOES NOT include neighbors, friends, cousins, nieces, etc.  These people are welcome to come along with you, however, you would have to register them on a separate form.

IMPORTANT NOTE TO REMEMBER:

Wisconsin CHEA does not offer a "shopping only" pass to any part of our conference.

However, that does not mean that you cannot attend our conference just to shop the vendor hall.

YOU will have to decide what the most cost-effective way for you to shop is.

Check out the day price for Thursday, the one day vs. the full weekend (Fri/Sat) prices, and consider supporting CHEA as that also gets you some nice perks!!

Here are some money-saving hints:

It costs $30 per family or individual to attend all day Thursday from 9 am to 5 pm, and the vendor hall is included in that one day price.

However, please remember that the Used Book Sale is only available on FRIDAY-- there are NO USED BOOKS for sale on Thursday- only the full vendor hall is open!!

It costs $35 OR $55 OR $75 to support CHEA. While all three of those levels have their own special benefits (see the Support CHEA page on this website), included in all three of those levels is FREE ENTRANCE to Thursday's events from 9 am to 5 pm (excluding the evening concert and the ice cream social, which are paid for separately), which includes the vendor hall shopping.

If you want to save lots of money at the Used Book Sale (or bring your own things to sell, thereby EARNING money), you MUST be a PAID Attendee on Friday in order to do that.

It costs ONLY $10 more to attend Friday and Saturday, versus attending just one of those two days.

It costs ONLY $10 more to bring a spouse with you versus one individual adult attending.

Children and teens (all students living at home, for that matter) STILL attend at the LOW COST of $15 per day on Friday and Saturday.

If you have a large family, remember that you only pay for the first THREE of your children, the rest are free!!

MUSIC, ANYONE??

We were so blessed this year to be honored with a performance by the Michigan Home School band. Many folks mentioned how wonderful it was to have music at conference again!!

So-----------

We have decided to offer a special Gospel Concert on Thursday evening, May 29.

We feel this will be a wonderful way to begin our busy conference weekend.

We are pleased to announce that we have now confirmed that

LEGACY FIVE

will be performing for us!!

See the home page for information!! Also, click the link below to order concert tickets.

We will be opening up this event to the general public, so keep your church friends informed, as details become more firm.

We will have posters and order forms available. If you would like a packet, please contact us.

Tickets are available NOW.

You do not need to be a conference attendee in order to attend this wonderful concert.

However, our conference attendees (those who pre register for both Friday and Saturday) will be able to attend at a discounted price. You will see this price on the advance registration form (available now!!).

SAVE $3 PER TICKET FOR EACH PERSON REGISTERED ON YOUR CONFERENCE REGISTRATION FORM FOR BOTH FRIDAY AND SATURDAY!!

DISCOUNT LODGING

Remember that the Olympia Resort is offering discount lodging right on site at a greatly reduced price for our group, which is a HUGE savings off their regular rates.

Rooms do go fast- it is never too early to reserve your rooms!!

Also remember that with the special activities taking place on Thursday, you may want to make it an extended family getaway weekend, and arrive as early as Wednesday evening.

The special rates are available Wednesday night through Saturday night.

For reservations, call the Olympia at 1-800-558-9573. Be sure to mention that you are with the CHEA group in order to get the discounted rate!

OTHER INFORMATION

Of course, conference will continue to operate with many of our traditional activities over the weekend, such as:

Statewide used book sale on Friday afternoon from 3:30 - 6:30 p.m.

Many new workshops and keynotes for all ages.

Vendor hall hours of operation:

Thursday, May 29- 9 am to 5 pm.

Friday, May 30-  9 am to 7:30 pm.

Saturday, May 31-- 8 am to 12 noon.

Remember that the vendor hall does not include the used book sale. The vendor halls are areas where the new curriculum companies showcase their products-- anything from full curriculum companies, to specialized products-- all of interest to the home school family.

CHEA supporters will get into the Thursday activities from 9 am to 5 pm absolutely free, by supporting CHEA at any level (excluding the evening concert and cost of the ice cream social). Remember, though, that if you paid to support CHEA at the spring 2007 conference, in order to attend the 2008 conference Thursday family adventure day for free, you must renew your support.

CHEA DOES NOT OFFER SHOPPING ONLY PASSES-- however, you may come in to shop any time our vendor halls are open, by paying that day's registration fee.

Therefore, the most cost effective time to JUST SHOP would be Thursday, May 29-- from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. as the cost is $30 per family, or FREE ENTRANCE to CHEA supporters!!

Remember that by definition a FAMILY is an individual or married couple and their immediate children living in the home, regardless of age.

While there are MANY activities for children of all ages, if mom just needs to get away by herself, that is perfectly fine-- you would then pay the family price on Thursday, or the individual prices on Friday and/or Saturday.

NOTE ON VENDORS:

Please understand that CHEA invites MANY, MANY vendors to our conferences. Our mailing list is in the hundreds.

However, we cannot twist the arms of the vendors to MAKE them come to conference.

Vendors have many reasons why they do not come to our conference. Please let me assure you, it is nothing personal. They do not dislike Wisconsin, our attendees or our staff.

Here are some reasons vendors have expressed to us as to why they cannot come:

There are other conferences the same weekend, and they must go to the larger ones (I must insert here that we publish our dates up to three years in advance for attendees, speakers and vendors to have enough time to plan).

They are too small of a company to justify the expense of traveling to a conference.

If they are a former vendor, and have decided not to attend- this is the most often cited reason:

Our sales have gone down in the last (one, two, three) years!!

Please, then, let me encourage you to PLEASE ATTEND OUR CONFERENCE AND PLEASE ENCOURAGE OTHERS ALSO TO ATTEND. Many vendors see lower attendance, and/or lower sales, and this is a big factor in their decision not to attend.

Of course, unfortunately, this can be a vicious cycle-- the attendance is low, so the vendor stops coming; the vendors stop coming, so the attendees stop coming...

Therefore, please remember that WE NEED YOU!! Please support your own Wisconsin statewide Christian home school ministry-- Wisconsin CHEA!! And, please spread the word and encourage others to do the same. We are so grateful for those of you who attend year after year. If it weren't for you faithful folks, CHEA would not exist!!

For everyone's information, our attendance has come up in the past three years.

Our attendance has steadily increased from 1,250 in 2005 to 1,345 in 2006, to 1,450 in 2007.

So, we thank all of you who have been faithful in coming to conference.

Please don't stop, and please encourage others to attend as well!!

If your favorite vendor is not on our list, we encourage you to contact them and RESPECTFULLY express your disappointment in the fact that they will not be attending our annual conference.

Another idea is to offer your help. Some vendors have too many conferences on the same weekend, or it is too far for them to travel. If you are very familiar with their product, perhaps they will allow you to man their booth in the exhibit hall, and you may earn some money or some product by doing that.
